What motivated our project?
The lack of digitalization in construction sector is a very serious, systemic, and all too common problem. The COVID-19 pandemic has shown us that almost anything can be digitalized, most and foremost, education. Within this project, we use the generated momentum and take education one step closer to the digital future. We are planning to leverage of the European plan for boosting the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (shortly, AEC) productivity and develop the digital skills of the ideal candidate. Digital permits and automatic compliance checks for buildings and infrastructure, data-driven distributed industrial environment and new breakthrough technologies for technological sovereignty in construction are just a few examples of European initiatives directed towards the AEC industry. To support up, we have contacted a series of stakeholders in the AEC industry to get their support to sketch-up the requirements and identify the industry needs.
Objective
The main objective of the course is to provide the AEC industry with graduates that have digital knowledge, skill, ambition, and motivation to take the industry to the digital age and for this we address the following topics:
Strengthen the collaboration of High Education Institutions and AEC industry to get an updated view for industry needs regarding digitalization
Increase the employability of graduate students
Increase attractiveness of AEC academic programs and attract more students to the AEC field
Expected Results
Following the implementation of this project we are looking to:
Tighten the collaboration of HEIs and AEC industry to better respond to industry needs;
Create and keep up to date a database with AEC industry digitalization needs collected in all partner countries from companies, professional associations and national agencies;
Create and keep up to date a database with AEC industry digitalization success stories, best practices and lessons learned collected in all partner countries from companies with a high level of digitalization;
Develop a pilot course in Digital Engineering for Constructions in line with AEC industry current needs, ISO 19650 and European digitalization vision;
An up-to-date database with Lessons Learned and Best Practices for HEIs and AEC industry collaboration regarding course development and curricula update to be shared within the academic and Erasmus+ network.
